Student Assistance Programs

The core mission of the Baldwin Park Woman’s Club is to enrich the lives of our residents through assistance programs. We are proudest of the Student Programs we offer. In each calendar year we touch the lives of many students and their families by offering opportunity for growth, recognition and reward.

SCHOLARSHIPS and AWARDS  FOR STUDENTS

HOBY LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE – A sophomore interested in community service or student leadership can apply to be an attendee to the Hugh O Brien Youth Leadership Conference. Expenses are paid by our club to encourage the development of student leaders. Students are chosen by the school counselors if they fit the criteria.

STUDENT ART CONTEST – We work with  teachers in the ARTS to  encourage students to  submit works in charcoal, paint, pen, pencil and photography for an opportunity for both recognition and cash awards. We hope to incentivize students to pursue their talents. Students with submitted works that win district honors are given Cash Awards by the Woman’s Club.

STUDENT MUSIC COMPETITION – Students may compete for cash awards at both the club and district level. All students are given access to performance experience and winning students have opportunity to win a Cash Award. All students gain from the experience of competition and public performance.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS – Students with a base B average are encouraged to compete for academic scholarships. The process includes an application, essay both written and verbal.  Students awarded scholarships are given a cash remittance upon proof of college attendance.

VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS – We award scholarship funds to students pursuing trades.

Students awarded Academic and Vocational Scholarships are also recognize by local elected officials for their achievements.

HOW DO STUDENTS COMPETE?

For the Music Scholarships, ask your teachers or Music advisors. The Student Music Competition at the Club (seniors) is held in January. Those winning the club competition are invited to also compete at the District Level in March. Both offer cash awards.

For the Art Contest , we organize, through the teachers at the local high schools, to collect student submissions in several mediums; photography, painting, charcoal, pen, pencil in March. These are taken to the District competition. Students who win ribbons are also rewarded by our club with cash awards.

Applications are available for the Academic and Vocational Scholarships at the schools in January; ask your school counselor for the application, all the information is given to them every year. Students must also compete with an oral essay. Scholarships are given based on monies available through our estate gifts and fundraising efforts.

For the HOBY Leadership Conference; school counselors select students for this opportunity, inquire with counselors if interested.

Students in the Music Competition compete in both Vocal and Instrument categories.. We offer Traditional and Pop for both. One winner is selected for each of the four categories. All student competitors are given In N Out gift cards. Winners in 2026 received $300 from the club individually and had opportunity at the district level to win an additional $500.
For HOBY attendees, we welcome them each fall to be our guest speakers, sharing their leadership experiences with club members.
